Dublin High School Alum Sentenced To 30 Years To Life For Sexual Assaults

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin High School alumnus Arian Eteghaei was sentenced to 30 years to life after being convicted of committing multiple sexual assaults while he was a student at UCSB, the Santa Barbara County District Attorney announced.

Eteghaei, 24, was convicted in January on two felony sexual assault offenses of forcible rape and forcible sexual penetration, as well as misdemeanor domestic violence, the DA said. The jury also found true a special allegation that the sexual offenses were committed against more than one victim.

Eteghaei, once a standout soccer player in Dublin, was arrested in 2021 while a student at UCSB and charged with the sexual assaults of three women, according to reports. After local media reported on the arrest, three additional women also claimed that he had assaulted them.

Eteghaei pleaded not guilty and testified at the trial that the encounters were consensual. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on all 14 counts, and convicted him of two felony counts and one misdemeanor count.

Eteghaei attempted to escape after his conviction, according to footage obtained by Noozhawk. He ran for about a block from the courthouse before he was eventually tackled. He faces criminal charges of felony escape by force or violence, to which he has pleaded not guilty, according to KTLA.

"This case would not have been possible without the extraordinary courage of the victims who came forward and participated in a long and difficult legal process," Santa Barbara County District Attorney John Savrnoch said in a statement. "Their strength and willingness to testify allowed the truth to be heard and ultimately allowed the defendant to be held accountable for the serious harm he caused. We are also grateful to the jurors who devoted months to carefully listening to the evidence and thoughtfully carrying out their important role in our justice system."
