Today's riddle: What do you call a paper airplane that can't fly? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. 3-Bedroom Homes Available In Dublin For $576K (patch.com) — Dublin residents looking to buy their first home have a rare chance at below-market three-bedroom houses in the new Francis Ranch development, priced at about half the city's median. The program targets moderate-income households, caps assets, and gives preference to people who live or work in Dublin, as well as seniors, veterans, and residents with disabilities, with applications due Oct. 30.
2. Dublin, Pleasanton Animal Shelter Costs Rise After Livermore Pulls Out (patch.com) — Dublin is weighing a new agreement to keep the East County Animal Shelter running after Livermore's exit shifted more of the operating costs onto Dublin and Pleasanton. City leaders must now decide whether to accept a shorter-term contract with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office while Dublin animals continue to rely on long-standing county-run services based in the area.
3. Wellness in Our Backyard: Dublin's Health & Safety Fair (ca.gov) — Dublin residents are invited to a free Health & Safety Fair at Don Biddle Community Park on Saturday, Oct. 24, with screenings, safety resources, and kids' activities. You can meet first responders, learn about home and bike safety, and explore counseling and crime-prevention programs, all while enjoying food trucks and family-friendly fun.
4. Tri-Valley employers implement mass layoffs (pleasantonweekly.com) — Major employers across the Tri-Valley, including Safeway's Dublin Canyon Road offices, are cutting more than 400 jobs, with many high-level engineering and management roles affected. Workday, Chevron, Kaiser, Oracle, and John Muir Health are all trimming local staff, reshaping the regional job market even as some companies say they'll keep hiring in select areas.
5. 'Pertinent evidence' seized from home of slain NYT executive's estranged wife, police say (abc7news.com) — Dublin police have seized what they call "pertinent evidence" from the home of a New York Times gaming executive's estranged wife, days after he was fatally shot in a Dublin sports complex parking lot. Two Dublin residents, her parents, remain jailed on suspicion of murder as court hearings and past domestic violence allegations continue to shape the high-profile case.
