Behind the Scenes of the Dublin Police Department

Thirty Dublin residents are participating in the 2011 Citizens' Police Academy.

Are you curious about what happens behind the scenes at the Dublin Police Department? You're not alone. Thirty residents attended the first class of this year's Citizens' Police Academy on Wednesday evening.

"I just really wanted to see what it (police services) was all about," said Teresa Buckner.

The 10-week academy provides a look into law-enforcement operations. Participants meet once a week for three hours.

"This class gives us a chance to be more involved," said Mary Roman.

Topics include crime scene and evidence collection, traffic and radio operations, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, gangs and drugs.

"I'm really impressed to see that so many people are interested," said Lt. Linda Thuman.

Wednesday's class included a presentation by  about crime statistics in the city.

"We want everyone to learn things and have fun. This is about learning more about us and we're honored that you want to do that," McCarthy told the group. 

The class will tour , the fifth largest jail in the nation. It will also visit the coroner's bureau in Oakland.
