Could A Single-Use Foodware Ban Be Coming To Dublin?
StopWaste, a Bay Area anti-waste group, is expected to propose disposable foodware bans to the city council at its Tuesday meeting.
DUBLIN, CA — Dublin has identified minimizing the use of single-use disposables as a legislative priority this year. Next week, the city council will weigh its options in introducing a ban on single-use-foodware, according to a report posted for the council's Jan. 14 meeting agenda.
Oakland-based nonprofit StopWaste has presented the council with some options when it comes to regulating foodware. A countywide ban could make the transition less complicated for businesses and confusing for the public, the nonprofit said. But it has also proposed an ordinance that cities could customize and implement.
The latter option would give cities more control and allow a ban to be tailored to its goals, and staff would be tasked with enforcement.

Adding a charge on single-use cups or to-go meals could also be an option, StopWaste said.
A countywide ban could cost $1 million to create and implement, plus $400,000 per year to enforce.

The council will also consider a ban on the sale of vape products.
