Dublin CHP Officer Killed In Line Of Duty Would Be Proud

DUBLIN, CA — The daughter of a Dublin California Highway Patrol officer who was killed in the line of duty would have made her dad so happy. Thursday evening, Reese Miller graduated from 8th grade at Lodi Christian School surrounded by her family and a team of CHP officers who turned out to support her. "Congratulations Reese, your forever CHP family is so proud of you!" the Dublin CHP wrote on social media.
"Eleven years ago, we made a promise to Officer Miller’s widow and children that we would never forget him. It is our honor to be there because he couldn’t," said Dublin CHP Captain Christopher Sherry.
In November 2007, Reese's dad, Officer John Miller from the Dublin CHP office, was killed in a crash while searching for a suspected drunk driver. He left behind young Reese, as well as a son, Chandler, and wife, Stephanie. According to his obituary, the Lodi resident loved law enforcement and spending time with his family, including taking his kids fishing and to dance and swim lessons.

Miller had only recently graduated from the CHP academy when he was killed. During his final police pursuit in 2007, Miller was driving south on North Livermore Avenue about one mile north of I-580 when he lost control of his patrol car around a sharp curve and struck a tree. He was fatally injured in the crash. The drunk driver was eventually caught and arrested by CHP.
The CHP’s participation at Reese's graduation is a reminder to everyone about the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day, Sherry said. "It is a reminder about that families and friends that are left behind when an officer is killed in the line of duty," he said. "Officers take an oath to serve the public knowing that this is a possibility.”
