Dublin Man Arrested in Danville on Suspicion of Residential Burglary

Police say the suspect fled from officers and was eventually captured with the help of a police canine.

DANVILLE, CA: Police credit an alert resident for helping foil an alleged burglary in Danville Thursday morning.

Danville Police arrested a 20-year-old Dublin man suspected of the residential burglary after a brief foot pursuit in the Greenbrook neighborhood of Danville, officials said.

According to a statement, a citizen called 911 at 9:37 a.m. to report a suspicious person who was seen leaving a neighbor's garage in the area of Greenbrook Dr. and Rock Island Circle.

Responding officers found a person matching the suspect description on a nearby greenbelt and a foot pursuit ensued.

"The subject discarded items as he ran away; the items were recovered and determined to have been stolen in a residential burglary a few moments earlier from a home in the 600 block of Western Star Place," officials said.

Police said Dublin resident Cristian Vargas-Ortega, 20, was eventually discovered hiding in the 200 block of St. Christopher Dr. and was taken into custody with the assistance of a police canine.

"Vargas-Ortega has been charged with residential burglary and resisting arrest," officials said. "He was also arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant out of Marin County. He was treated for minor injuries and will be booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. "

Chief Simpkins expressed his gratitude to the agencies that assisted with the arrest and to the alert resident who reported the suspicious activity.

“This was a team effort that allowed us to catch a burglar,” Simpkins said. “Policing is a partnership with our community and we appreciate the watchful eyes of our residents. We are also grateful for the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office and the San Ramon Police Department.”
