Dublin Man Involved in 3-Car Crash in Sunol That Killed Man, Woman from San Jose

A man and a woman from San Jose were killed when their BMW was hit by one car and pushed into the path of another while driving on state Highway 84 in Sunol Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man was identified today as 27-year-old Yu Jian Sun, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. Four other people, including a 7-year-old girl, were injured in the crash, CHP officials said. The two victims who died were both headed east in a green 2001 BMW 530i.
At about 6:15 p.m., a 50-year-old Dublin man driving a black 2007 Toyota Corolla tried to make a left turn onto Vallecitos Road in front of their car, according to the CHP. The Toyota hit the BMW and pushed it into the path of a green 2013 Infinity SUV. The BMW and Infinity collided head-on, CHP officials said.

Sun was driving the BMW and died at the crash scene. Officers provided first aid to his passenger, a 27-year-old woman, until she was flown to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. She died at the hospital. The woman’s identity has not been released pending notification of her next of kin, according to the coroner’s bureau. The Toyota driver was also flown to Eden Medical Center with major injuries. The three Livermore residents in the Infinity, a 71-year-old man, a 68-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl, were all taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the CHP.

The highway was closed for more than two hours as the CHP investigated the cause of the crash and fully reopened at about 10 p.m. Investigators do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
