Dublin Man Killed In Woodside Crash

A Freeway Service Patrol driver from Dublin was killed after a lumber truck crashed into him.

DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin man has been identified as the Freeway Service Patrol driver killed in a Tuesday afternoon crash.

Mark Alarcon, 61, was fatally injured on Highway 280 in Woodside, between Farm Hill Boulevard and Edgewood Road, when a lumber truck driver allowed the vehicle to veer off of the road. The truck crashed into Alarcon and his Freeway Service Patrol truck.

The Freeway Service Patrol is a free service offered by the California Higway Patrol and California Department of Transportation. As part of the program, privately owned tow trucks monitor roadways during rush hour, offering gas and other services to drivers in need of help.

Impairment is not suspected in the crash, CHP said. The lumber truck driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
