Dublin Police Warn Against Scam Calls

A Dublin resident received a fraudulent call from someone claiming to be a sergeant from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin police are warning the public against scam calls claiming to be a sergeant from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

A Dublin resident received such a call and reported it to the police. Neither Dublin Police Services nor the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office made such a call, and detectives are trying to identify a suspect. In California, impersonating a police officer is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $2000.

Police departments will never call residents soliciting money. Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to contact the DPS front desk at 925-833-6670. Any Dublin resident who received a call from 510-941-0249, or has received a call threatening an arrest and/or demanding money, should call DPS at 925-462-1212. Anyone who lives in unincorporated Alameda County should call 510-667-7721.
