Livermore Residents Receive Scam Calls Impersonating LPD

Callers reported receiving calls pretending to be Livermore police claiming that they will need to pay them to avoid getting arrested.

LIVERMORE, CA — Some Livermore residents have received scam calls claiming to be from the Livermore Police Department, the LPD warned.

Scammers spoofing the LPD phone number claim that a warrant has been issued for the resident’s arrest for failing to appear in court, often for jury duty. Callers may also include some personal information about residents, like addresses and phone numbers that can be researched online.

Residents are then asked to avoid arrest via an electronic payment.

The Livermore Police Department said that it will never contact any residents to request payment over the phone. The Livermore Police Officers Association does not make phone calls for donations, but does send out donation mailers.

Anyone who receives a call like the one described is urged not to share any personal information.
