Dublin Schools Cancel Events Amid Coronavirus Concerns

Schools will remain open, but dances, rallies, assemblies and more have been called off.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin Unified School District has joined the chorus of California school districts calling off non-essential events in the wake of an advisory from the California Department of Public Health calling for cancelations of gatherings where 250 people or more meet in an attempt to curb spread of the new coronavirus.

Rallies, assemblies, performances, dances, fundraisers, enrichment activities, middle school sports, open houses and more have been canceled through April 12 — 30 days out, Superintendent Dave Marken said in a Thursday announcement. Field trips outside of the school day are suspended and no spectators will be allowed to watch high school sports.

Class will still be held.

The news came in the hours after state health officials advised the public that events with more than 250 people should not be canceled or postponed, and small events should only be held if people can keep six feet of space between one another.

Also on Thursday Alameda County confirmed four additional cases of coronavirus, for a total of seven in the county. The county banned large gatherings at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
