Dublin's Self-Driving Shared Vehicle Cleared To Serve Public

DUBLIN, CA — Tri-Valley residents looking for a last-mile transit solution to and from the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station can now count on the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority's self-driving vehicle.

A safety operators will be aboard at all times. The six-seat, zero-emission bus runs weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., except for holidays.

A round-trip takes about 10 minutes. The car drives along Altamirano Avenue and Arnold Road.

The vehicle comes equipped with GPS and Light Detection and Ranging technology, which involves the use of a laser to measure distances. The vehicle was approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently, LAVTA said in a news release.

"It's so exciting to see the Tri-Valley region and LAVTA leading the country in this type of technology," said Tim Sbranti of Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group in a video produced by LAVTA.

Vehicles are cleaned and sanitized between time slots, and only three passengers are currently being allowed onboard.

Parking can be found on nearby Iron Horse Parkway, LAVTA said.
