DUI Checkpoint In Dublin Friday

DUBLIN, CA — A DUI checkpoint will be held in Dublin on Friday night, police officials said. The checkpoint will be set up along Dublin Boulevard between Clark Avenue and Civic Plaza. Officers with Dublin Police Services will be looking for alcohol and/or drug impairment when contacting drivers. Police said that in addition to the checkpoint, they will be deploying six mobile DUI Saturation Patrols throughout the holiday enforcement campaign period.

"This holiday season, drivers will notice increased enforcement watching closely for anyone who is driving impaired," said Dublin Police Services Police Chief Garrett Holmes. "It is vital that we keep our roads and our travelers safe, not just during the holidays, but every day. With extra travelers on the roads, and people attending holiday parties, we will likely see an uptick in drunk driving. We’ll be arresting anyone we catch breaking this life-saving law."

Police officials say the checkpoint, which is funded by the grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related collisions, deaths and injuries in the East Bay, will only delay drivers momentarily. Officials warn that impaired driving includes prescription drugs and marijuana

"Two simple words can keep your holiday festivities safe – plan ahead," said OTS Director Rhonda Craft. "Before you head out to any celebration, plan how you are getting home safely. If you are drinking, that means knowing what sober driver or service you will be using."

Drivers are encouraged to designate a driver, use alternative methods of transportation to get home and download the Designated Driver VIP, or DDVIP, a free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds everyone to report suspected drunken driving by calling 911.
