Sen. Jerry McNerney's Dublin Office Evacuated Due To Suspicious Package

DUBLIN, CA — The Dublin office of State Sen. Jerry McNerney was closed and evacuated Wednesday due to a suspicious package, according to Dublin Police Services.

The package arrived the prior evening at McNerney’s office on 6850 Regional Street, police said. It was addressed to Sen. McNerney and one of his aides, although staff were not expecting any deliveries, and the package was reportedly unlike anything else the office usually receives. The package did not contain a name or return address.

Police arrived at around 10:22 a.m. Wednesday. They were unable to determine the sender, but were able to narrow its origin to Oregon. Police notified the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit, who are further evaluating the package.

Before the EOD arrived, the building was evacuated. Police said there was no need to evacuate surrounding buildings or businesses due to the location of the package. The EO team arrived and determined no threats were present. Dublin police said that upon completing their investigation into the matter, they determined no crimes had occurred.

Staff were allowed to re-enter the building after about one hour. The scene was cleared just after 1 p.m., police said.
