Plans For High-End Retail Center in Dublin Fall Through

Dublin had been selected as the location for an upscale shopping center by Caruso Affiliated, but those plans are no longer on the drawing board, according to Dublin Economic Development Director Linda Smith.

In August, the company purchased 14.32 acres of land at the southwestern corner of Dublin Boulevard and Hacienda Drive for $13.1 million with the intention of opening a 165,000-square-foot retail center anchored by an upscale grocery store.

Caruso Affiliated has nine high-end shopping centers in Southern California, including The Grove, a 20-acre outdoor shopping center in Los Angeles.

“The city is disappointed that Caruso will not be moving forward with their proposal at corner of Dublin and Hacienda but certainly understands that these types of projects are very complex and the economics dictate their timing and ultimate development,” said Smith.

As of Friday afternoon, plans to open the future development were still listed on the company's website.

"Caruso Affiliated has been actively seeking development opportunities in the strong Tri-Valley trade area of the East Bay and Dublin is a prime community due to its strong demographics and its highly visible location along the 580 corridor," according to the overview of the project on the website.

Caruso Affiliated officials could not be reached for comment on Friday afternoon.
