'Promenade' Eyed As Site For New Dublin High School

The target date for the new school opening is fall of 2022.

DUBLIN, CA – After a lengthy review process, Dublin officials selected the "Promenade" as the site of the city's future high school and now will focus on acquisition of the property.

The Dublin Unified School District Board of Trustees is moving forward to buy the Promenade land, which is located on 23.4 acres south of Central Parkway, east of Chancery Lane and north of Dublin Boulevard, with a goal of opening the new facility in the fall of 2022, officials said.

"The decision to focus on the Promenade site is a major milestone in the development of a new high school in Dublin," district authorities said.

Based on input from the district and the public and announced at a board meeting this month, Promenade was selected following reviews of five potential locations. Due to limitations on three of the sites, the remaining two options included converting Fallon Middle School into a potential high school and relocating the middle school or developing the Promenade site as a high school.

The initial phase of the future high school would accommodate a minimum of 1,000 students, and the school would be designed so that it can later be expanded for a planned capacity of approximately 2,500 students, officials said.

"The Promenade site is geared towards a more urbanized setting, and the high school design will be different from the more open concept found at Dublin High," officials said. "A future high school on the Promenade site will be a unique facility among DUSD sites and appropriately planned and designed to meet future educational needs and to blend with the denser surrounding environment."

The Board of Trustees earmarked $100 million in Measure H funds for the initial phase of a future high school in eastern Dublin, officials said, adding that "if it is necessary to spend more to get the first phase of the high school that Dublin students deserve, the Board would be willing to do so."
