Quarry Lane School Canned Food Drive Breaks Record

The Quarry Lane School in Dublin broke their own record by donating over 9,000 lbs. of food to the Alameda County Food Bank this year.

The Quarry Lane School broke their record this year, collecting over 9,000 lbs of food during their annual food drive, benefitting the Alameda County Food Bank. This exceeds last year’s record breaking amount of 8,475 lbs.—over double the amount donated the previous year.

“This amazing result is a reflection of the spirit and generosity of the Quarry Lane community,” says Gabrielle Kaplan, Lower School Director for The Quarry Lane School. “Our students, families and faculty are amazing; they truly go above and beyond when it comes to helping the community.”

The canned food drive ran from November 2nd through November 20th in both the Quarry Lane Lower and Upper School. Students Jeff Jung and Xin (Jim) Jun donated more than 400 cans each, and students Jennifer Wang and Katie Nie donated more than 300 cans each. Quarry Lane freshman Vishal Palekar petitioned local grocery stores for donations and collected 200 cans—including a generous donation from Trader Joe’s of Pleasanton.

“These kids did a remarkable job with the drive this year,” says Mark Zabrowski, instructor at The Quarry Lane School. “With each passing year, the students are more driven to collect donations and build upon the previous year’s record. Knowing that they can help so many families during the holidays is a big driving factor and I am incredibly proud of their efforts.”
