Sheared Fire Hydrant Sends Water Shooting Into Air In Dublin

A crowd gathered to watch and applauded after firefighters finally shut down the water, according to witnesses.

DUBLIN, CA — Firefighters in Dublin worked to shut off a fire hydrant sheared off during a collision Monday evening, fire officials said. The damaged hydrant, which sent thousands of gallons of water into the air for about 20 minutes, was reported in the 3100 block of Finnian Way just before 7 p.m.

"Upon arrival, it was learned the driver of a box truck was attempting to park at the curb when the vehicle struck and damaged a fire hydrant," a Dublin Police Services spokesperson told Patch.

A crowd gathered to watch and applauded after firefighters finally shut down the water, according to witnesses. No one was injured during the incident. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the collision, police said.
