Sherry Hu Announces Candidacy For Dublin Mayor

DUBLIN, CA — Councilmember Sherry Hu is the second candidate to throw her candidacy for Dublin mayor in 2024. Councilmember Jean Josey was the first. Both candidates are competing to replace current Mayor Melissa Hernandez, who will be termed out next year.

Hu is a long-time resident who has served on the Dublin City Council since 2020. She has served on a number of local commissions and boards, including as:

  • Executive Board Member of East Bay Community Energy
  • Commissioner for the Alameda County Library Advisory Commission
  • Member of the Dublin Unified school District Liaison Committee
  • Member of the East Bay Regional Park District Liaison Committee
  • Member of the Zone 7 Water Agency Liaison Committee
  • Senior vice president of the Women Wealth Symposium
  • Senior advisor at the US-China Energy Efficiency Alliance
  • Board member of the Chinese Institute of Engineers

Hu has a Ph.D. in architectural engineering, as well as professional credentials in mechanical and electrical engineering, financial planning, project management, and more. She and other parents co-founded the Above Beyond Leadership Education, which has donated tens of thousands of dollars to various causes, including orphanages in India, libraries in Indonesia, and many more. In 2023, the city of Dublin recognized ABLE as the Organization of the Year.

Hu said that safety is her number one priority. “Our quality of life depends on a safe community in our homes, schools, and local businesses,” she said in a statement. “I advocate a proactive approach that utilizes advanced technology, the most modern police practices, and zero tolerance for violent crime. A successful police and fire department shall be visible and accountable to the citizens. Expansion of community watch and school resource officers in our schools will make our children safer.”

She also promised an action plan to attract tech jobs to Dublin; improvement of infrastructure, parks and public services; collaboration with DUSD to improve schools; protection of parks and open spaces; and transportation solutions to make daily life “more efficient, pleasant, and [environmentally]-friendly.”
