Tassajara Scholarship Fund Announces Five Scholarship Recipients in Dublin Unified School District

Scholarship recipients have been awarded $5,000 to cover educational expenses

The Tassajara Scholarship Fund is proud to announce the winners of the Fund’s annual scholarship program for high school students in the Dublin Unified School District.

This is the second year that the Tassajara Scholarship fund has been able to assist students in the Dublin Unified School District.

“The Committee was extremely impressed with this year’s pool of applicants,” said Barbara Inderbitzen, the fund administrator. “It gives us great pleasure to award these scholarships to our deserving recipients and we wish them success and happiness as they begin their college careers and follow their dreams.”

The five winners will each be awarded scholarships of $5,000 to help cover their educational expenses. The recipients were selected from a host of applicants with outstanding academic records and demonstrated financial need.

  • Mitchell Svantner: Mitchell is a Dublin High School graduate who maintained a 4.0 GPA while volunteering at St. Raymond Church and Tri Valley Haven, a local women’s shelter. He plays guitar, drums and trombone and completed numerous Advanced Placement courses. He will attend Las Positas Community College.
  • Miori Freeman: Miori graduated from Dublin High School. She has volunteered as a youth mentor for girls’ soccer and is a licensed soccer referee. As an AVID volunteer, she contributed 10 hours per semester. She will attend CSU Dominguez Hills.
  • Jessica Shipps: Jessica graduated from Dublin High School. She volunteered for the following organizations or events: Blue Star Moms, Safeway food drive, Fairground clean-up, and Kids Against Hunger. She maintained a 4.03 GPA and participated in the Dublin School District band program for 9 years. She will attend San Diego State University.
  • Callan Jackman: Callan graduated from Dublin High School. She volunteered for the Dublin High School Leadership group and California Scholarship Federation. She also helped to raise money for a school in Sierra Leone, was a member of the swim team and worked as an intern at a physical therapy office. Callan will attend Oregon State University.
  • Matthew Rosefield: Matthew graduated from Dublin High School. He volunteered at Las Positas College and Dubs Drum Basement. In addition, he contributed many hours as a summer counselor at Camp Winning Hands. He completed numerous Advanced Placement classes and will attend Washington State University.

“These recipients represent just a few of the amazing students in our community, and we look forward to continuing to help deserving students in Dublin achieve their goals for many years to come,” Inderbitzen said.

The Tassajara Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 by James Tong with an initial $500,000 endowment. The scholarship is open to all high school seniors in Dublin who will be attending a four-year college, community college or technical school during the 2017/2018 school year.
