Woman Injured, Family Displaced by Kitchen Fire

A woman and two young children were displaced by a one-alarm fire at a duplex in Dublin Thursday afternoon, an Alameda County fire battalion chief said.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 8000 block of Beverly Lane at around 4:40 p.m., fire Battalion Chief John Walsh said.

Walsh said the woman was at home with two children under 4 years old when the fire erupted in the exhaust fan above the stove.

The woman attempted to extinguish the blaze and suffered second-degree burns to her hands and arms. She was assessed by medics at the scene and refused treatment, Walsh said.

A neighbor entered the duplex and helped the woman get the children out of the home, Walsh said.

The children and neighbor were not injured by the blaze.

Firefighters contained the fire, which had spread to the attic, within about 15 minutes.

The American Red Cross was contacted to provide housing for the displaced family.
