Poll: Majority of Californians Sympathize with ‘Occupy’ Protests

A new poll shows that Democrats are a lot more sympathetic with the Occupy movement than Republicans.

Nearly six out of every 10 California voters agree with the reasons why tens of thousands of protesters across the nation are engaged with the Occupy movement, according to the results of a statewide poll announced Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Times reports 58 percent of voters in the state who were surveyed for the nonpartisan Field Poll (initially known as The California Poll) see eye to eye with the Occupy protests’ campaign against rising economic inequality and corporate corruption.

Less than half of the respondents (46 percent) said they thoroughly identify with the movement or are somewhat sympathetic to it. Democratic respondents were a lot more sympathetic: 64 percent said they support the Occupy protests, while 73 percent of Republican respondents said they do not.
