This Kid's an Ace!

Tennis captain, standout senior, singer, student leader and volunteer, Kevin Parducho rocks. Read about and nominate sensational Eagle Rock youth in our new Whiz Kid of the Week column.

This week’s Whiz Kid of the Week is a standout senior at . He’s a top student, an artist, singer, tennis player and student leader.

  • Whiz Kid's Name/Age: Kevin Parducho, 18.
  • Whiz Kid's School/Church/Community Center: Eagle Rock High School.
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Kevin is the Number One singles player and one of the two captains of the Eagle Rock High tennis team.
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Besides being a tennis champ, Kevin boasts a 4.002-weighted GPA, which puts him academically in the top 10 of the senior class. He’s also the lead tenor in the school choir and has been a student rep for the Eagle Rock High School Alumni Association as well as the Interscholastic Athletics Committee, which represents school sports across Los Angeles. What’s more, Kevin volunteers at Glendale Memorial Hospital every Sunday and works as a senior class officer planning Class of ’11 events.
  • Bonus Whiz Kid Info: Kevin has played tennis since the seventh grade. His biggest weapon on the court is his groundstroke, which usually wins him his points. The most important thing in a game, says Parducho, is to listen to his coach, Eric Jacobson, who is also a counselor at the school and who tells his boys to play tennis “Eagle Rock style,” a method whereby “the player lasts all day long and grinds out every single point,” as Kevin puts. He is currently waiting to hear back from , where he hopes to gain admission and continue playing tennis. He plans to study biology and aspires to be a cardiothoracic surgeon.
