101 Freeway Pedestrian Survives Being hit by Big Rig

A man who was inexplicably walking on the Hollywood (101) Freeway is alive today but seriously injured after being struck by a big rig.

LOS ANGELES, CA - A man suffered major injuries today but survived being hit by a big rig while walking on a freeway lane in the downtown area, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident took place about 2 a.m. on the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, just north of the Pasadena (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said. The man was struck while in the No. 3 lane, he said.

The accident temporarily shut down all southbound lanes while paramedics and CHP officers responded to the scene. The man was transported to L.A. County-USC Medical Center by paramedics, Villalobos said

"There were no reports of any disabled vehicles along that stretch of the freeway, so we don't know why the man was walking on the freeway," Villalobos said.

The truck driver stopped at the scene and was not cited, he said.
