Brush Fire Scorches Elysian Park​, Hikers Evacuated

Firefighters battled a small brush fire at Elysian Park Thursday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Firefighters knocked down a couple of brush fires Thursday in Elysian Park.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported as a result of either blaze, the first of which was reported about 12:30 p.m. and blackened 1 1/2 acres, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Three helicopters and 107 firefighters responded and had the flames knocked down in 90 minutes, according to the LAFD's Brian Humphrey.

Another fire, with no known connection to the first, broke out about 2:10 p.m. on Angels Point Road near Academy Road and burned about a third of an acre. Firefighters and park rangers snuffed it out in 11 minutes, Humphrey said.

Rangers and Los Angeles police officers worked with firefighters to ensure that hikers were removed safely from the wildland area of the park after the first fire broke out.

No residential evacuations were ordered.
