Man In Custody After Standoff With Police Following Stabbing Incident In Downtown

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A man suspected of stabbing his boyfriend in a leg was in custody Thursday after a four-hour standoff with police in Downtown L.A.

Firefighters were called to the scene, a five-story building in the 700 block of South Main Street, about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in response to a report of a man threatening to jump, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Officers were trying to get the suspect and would-be jumper, a man in his 30s who was armed with a kitchen knife and a jagged broom handle, to surrender without further incident.

The victim was treated for a non- life-threatening injury, police said.

Around 11:30 p.m., a SWAT team made its way into the building where the suspect was holed up and used force to take him into custody, said Officer K. Krikke of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Station. No one was injured during the man's arrest, she said.
