Man Gets 4 Years in Hit and Run Death of Echo Park Teen

A 27-year-old man received a four-year sentence for killing a 15-year-old and injuring his 13-year-old cousin at Alvarado and Montrose.

LOS ANGELES, CA- A 27-year-old man was handed a four-year state prison term for a hit-and-run crash in Echo Park that killed a 15-year-old boy and injured the teen’s 13-year-old cousin.

Sang Won Jung pleaded no contest Tuesday to one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and one misdemeanor count of false report of a crime, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Jung struck Christian Donis and his cousin, Adam, with his vehicle at the intersection of Alvarado and Montrose streets about 10 p.m. last June 12, then fled the scene of the collision.

Christian Donis died at a hospital two days later. His cousin suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Jung went to a Los Angeles police substation the day after the crash and reported that he lent the car to someone else who had been in an accident. Police went to the body shop where Jung’s car had been taken and he was arrested soon afterward.

Jung is set to surrender April 15 to begin serving his prison term.
