Metro Bike Share Coming Soon To Echo Park

ECHO PARK, CA – Metro's bike-sharing pilot program is coming soon to the Echo Park Lake area, the transit agency announced Thursday.

The station will be installed by Oct. 5 -- ahead of the Oct. 8 CicLAvia Heart of the City Open Streets event in Echo Park presented by Metro -- to give residents and visitors to Echo Park an opportunity to learn about the program before a full system rollout in the neighborhood.

"Everyone should have access to clean, healthy transportation," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, chair of the Metro board. "Echo Park is a fantastic neighborhood to explore -- and the Metro Bike Share program will make it easier than ever to do it on two wheels."

Metro launched bike sharing in 2016 in downtown Los Angeles before expanding to Pasadena, the Port of L.A. and Venice. More that 1,400 bikes are now part of the system.

"Residents and visitors alike will be able to explore Echo Park like never before," City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell said. "People will have easy access to experience the joys of bicycle riding in a wonderful neighborhood."

Metro officials said the agency is considering expansions of the system to more than 20 other parts of the county, including Hollywood, North Hollywood, MacArthur Park, Koreatown, the San Gabriel Valley, East LosAngeles/Boyle Heights, Burbank, Glendale, Culver City and Palms.
