Overturned Big Rig Tanker Shuts Down Northbound 5 Freeway
A Big Rig carrying diesel fuel overturned on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Atwater Village.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Diesel fuel from an overturned big rig tanker was being cleaned up by fire crews Wednesday on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Atwater Village as of 1 a.m.
The crash and the spill, which occurred at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Los Feliz Boulevard, prompted the closure of all lanes, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The tank of the truck, which was carrying a 1,700-gallon diesel fuel load, was punctured and leaked diesel fuel on the freeway, Humphrey said.

There were no injuries, no fires and no evacuation, Humphrey said, but crews did respond to the scene and all leaked fuel had been contained.
The LAFD was working with the California Highway Patrol and the truck owner to coordinate a private vacuum truck to transfer the contents as well as a tow for the truck, Humphrey said.
