Police Arrest Man Suspected of Killing Store Clerk During Los Feliz Robbery

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Police Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a man accused of killing a clerk during a robbery at a Chevron station in the Los Feliz area last week.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said Kayshon Moody, 25, was arrested Friday and is being held without bail.

Moody -- who is set to be arraigned Feb. 21 -- made his initial court appearance Tuesday on one count each of murder and second-degree robbery stemming from the shooting death of 34-year-old M.D. Mizu Rahman. He also faces another second-degree robbery charge involving another alleged victim the same day.

The murder charge includes the special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery, along with allegations that Moody personally and intentionally discharged a handgun which caused great bodily injury and death. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Moody.

Rahman, who lived in Los Angeles and came to the United States from Bangladesh, died at a hospital after being shot about 3:30 a.m. Jan. 17 in the 2100 block of North Vermont Avenue.

According to LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar, the suspect made a purchase and stayed in the gas station while another customer entered, bought something and left. The suspect then approached the cashier again.

"He appeared to be making another transaction, although before that began, he pulled out a handgun and gave some orders to the cashier," Aguilar said last week. "The cashier appeared to be cooperating, although at that time the suspect fired multiple shots at the cashier."

The suspect then took the cash drawer and fled, Aguilar said.
