SILVER LAKE, CA — Nearly 1,300 Department of Water and Power customers in the Silver Lake area were left without power for hours Tuesday night thanks to intense 40 mph wind gusts that knocked down power lines.

DWP officials predicted power would be restored to the area by 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Intense wind gusts bedeviled utility workers throughout the region as winds downed power lines and trees and branches throughout the Los Angeles area.
