1925 Water Main Fails in El Cerrito
Customers were without water service for two hours after the water main burst.

EL CERRITO, CA - A 90-year-old water main broke today in El Cerrito, causing customers to lose water service for about 2 hours, according to the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
EBMUD spokeswoman Tracie Morales-Noisy said a 6-inch cast iron pipe that was installed in 1925 was reported broken in the 300 block of Behrens Street.
Water service was shut off at about noon, Morales-Noisy said. Nearly 70 customers lost their service until it was restored around 2 p.m., she said. Morales-Noisy said the break could have been caused by the pipe’s age or a variety of other factors.
