Project Summary
The Community Memorial Garden will benefit many members of our community. Students will learn to develop, plan, install, and construct gardens and nature spaces. Community members that will benefit from the CMG include, but are not limited to, parents, grandparents, neighbors, siblings, the City of El Cerrito, ECHS Stakeholders, etc. The benefits of this project are numerous in scope; several of the main benefits include:
- Supporting the at-risk student population by allowing them to have an outlet that will teach them to respect resources, food, and most importantly, themselves
- Enhancing the overall beauty and aesthetics of the El Cerrito community
- Bringing people of different ages, races, cultures, genders and sexes who may have separate needs in their lives, to work together towards a common goal
- Teaching people how urban farming can benefit an entire community
- Preparing youth for future job skills in sustainable industries
Why a Memorial Garden?
“A memorial garden provides a long-lasting tribute to a loved one who has passed away, as well as offers a place for the survivors to remember and to heal.” -Dr Leonard Perry, Extension Professor
The ECHS Community Memorial Garden aims to celebrate the life of our friends and family members who are no longer with us. The memorial product in this garden will be in the form of a fountain. We have not finalized the plans for this fountain and we are open to input for the future of the memorial fountain design.
