Police Shoot Driver They Say Dragged Officer, Pinned Another With Car During Traffic Stop

OAKLAND, CA — Police say they shot a driver who dragged one officer and pinned another with a car in Oakland early Friday morning.
The incident left both officers and the suspect hospitalized, according to the Oakland Police Department, which added that they are all in stable condition.
It's unclear why, but officers pulled the driver over around 3:15 a.m. in the 1200 block of Ninth Avenue, police said.

During the stop, officers saw a gun "in plain view," police said. The suspect tried driving off, dragging one of the officers and pinning the other against a parked car, police said.
That's when an officer shot the suspect, police said.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, in accordance with Oakland Police Department policy, authorities said.
The Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
