"Big O Tires" Retires: New Name, Same Management

The Big O Tires franchise on San Pablo Avenue across from Marshalls department store is gone, but the same business with the same management plans to continue as "El Cerrito Tires."

If you've driven by what used to be on San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito lately, you'll notice that the Big O signs are gone and that the shop is undergoing an overhaul.

That's because the operation found the cost of being a Big O franchise too expensive and decided to close and reopen as independently operated "El Cerrito Tires" instead, said a source close to the business who asked not to be identified.

"Everything's going to be the same," the source said, "same tires, same owner, same service, hopefully better pricing." He said they're hoping to reopen next Monday.

The shop will continue to honor any warranties issued when it was a Big O franchise, he said.

Attempts last week and earlier this week to get information from Big O Tires corporate headquarters were unsuccessful.
