BREAKING: Power Restored--Blame the Nutty Squirrel
The two hour power outage ended at 10 p.m.

Update:
PG&E has now restored power in Albany and surrounding cities. According to a company spokesman, 45,000 customers lost power at the height of the outage.
The cause: a squirrel.

“Looks like it was caused by a squirrel at a substation in El Cerrito,” J.D. Guidi said.

On a hot night when plenty of people would like nothing better than to crank the air conditioner, PG&E is reporting a major power outage that affects more than 25,000 customers.
The outage stretches from San Pablo to the north almost to South Berkeley.

BART reports that trains are not stopping at the Berkeley station because of the outage.
No other problems have been reported.
PG&E estimates that all power should be restored at 10:45 p.m.
