Charges Filed Against Alleged DUI Driver Who Struck Pedestrian, Sending Her to Hospital
Michael Didier was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to county jail in Martinez, where he was later released on bail.

A San Pablo man accused of hitting and seriously injuring a pedestrian while allegedly driving under the influence in El Cerrito last Saturday has been charged in Contra Costa County Superior Court. Michael Didier, 64, has been charged with DUI causing injury with enhancements for causing great bodily injury including brain injury or paralysis, according to the district attorney’s office.

Police said Didier struck and badly injured a woman walking near the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Portola Drive around 8 p.m. Saturday. The woman, a Bay Area resident in her 20s, was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in stable condition and remained hospitalized Thursday, according to El Cerrito police Lt. Steve Bonini.

An update on her condition was not available. Police said officers contacted Didier at the scene of the collision and noticed he displayed signs of intoxication. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to county jail in Martinez, where he was later released on bail. His arraignment date has not yet been set.
