City of El Cerrito Invites Residents to Take Housing Needs Survey
El Cerrito residents, businesses and community stakeholders are encouraged to take the survey by Wednesday, October 8, 2014.

The City of El Cerrito has developed a short online survey to gather feedback about community housing needs in El Cerrito. Results of the survey will be considered as part of the update to the City’s Housing Element, one of the elements of El Cerrito’s General Plan. The Housing Element is a planning tool to assess housing conditions and plan for the housing needs of all parts of El Cerrito’s population and will guide the City’s housing policy for the next eight years. Participation in the online housing survey will help ensure that the City’s Housing Element reflects the vision and priorities of the El Cerrito community.

The Housing Element identifies and analyzes the housing needs of the City of El Cerrito in order to maintain, improve, and create housing for all economic segments of the population, as well as special needs populations. In addition to establishing specific goals and strategies to guide the maintenance of existing and the development of new housing in El Cerrito, the Housing Element also requires the City to ensure there is an adequate supply of land for the development of affordable housing
The City of El Cerrito is in the process of updating its Housing Element. State law (Senate Bill 375) requires jurisdictions in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, including El Cerrito, to update their Housing Element based on an eight year planning period that begins in 2015. The Draft Housing Element update, which will cover the planning period from 2015 to 2023, will be reviewed and considered by the Planning Commission in November, 2014. The Final Housing Element is anticipated to be presented to the El Cerrito City Council for adoption in Spring 2015.
