City of El Cerrito Seeks Public Input on Active Transportation Plan

A Community Open House is scheduled on Wednesday, July 1st from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The City of El Cerrito will host a Community Open House on Wednesday, July 1st from 6:30 pm -8:00 pm at the El Cerrito City Hall, Council Chambers, 10890 San Pablo Avenue to share the draft Active Transportation Plan.

The draft El Cerrito Active Transportation Plan is an update to the City’s 2007 Circulation Plan for Bicyclists and Pedestrians. The Plan evaluates existing bicycle and pedestrian network to identify circulation gaps and meet changing community needs and also re-evaluated projects identified in the 2007 Circulation Plan that have not been completed.

Based on extensive community engagement gathered over the past two years, the draft Plan proposes nine focus area projects, revised bicycle and pedestrian networks, a policy toolkit, and a program framework to making walking and biking easier in El Cerrito.

The nine focus area projects are:

1. BART to Bay Trail Access Improvements

2. Ohlone Greenway Crossing Improvements

3. Citywide Wayfinding

4. Arlington Boulevard Pedestrian Improvements

5. East Side Bicycle Boulevard

6. East Side Bicycle Boulevard Wayfinding

7. Key Boulevard Improvements

8. Fairmount Avenue Improvements

9. Potrero Avenue Improvements

The draft Active Transportation Plan is available for review on the City’s website atwww.el-cerrito.org/ATP. Hard copies are available for public review at City Hall, the El Cerrito Community Center and the El Cerrito Library. Public comments may be emailed to the Public Works Department at streets@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us or mailed to City of El Cerrito, Attn: Public Works, 10890 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, CA 94530. Public comments will be accepted through July 17th, 2015.

The City is hosting a Community Open House on Wednesday, July 1st to provide information about the process to develop this plan, review the final project concepts, and lets community members know how they can provide comments. There will be a brief presentation at 6:30 p.m. to introduce the project and provide overall information on the public comment period. Materials will be available for review throughout the Open House.

Staff anticipates presenting the draft Active Transportation Plan to the City Council for their consideration later this summer.

The City received funding from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for development of the Active Transportation Plan.
