Coroner IDs Man Killed In I-80 Crash

The fiery, four-car wreck was Sunday morning near Richmond, officials said.

RICHMOND, CA — One of two people killed in a fiery four-vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond early Sunday morning has been identified, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

California Highway Patrol officers found the wreck on westbound Highway 80 near Cutting Boulevard around 4 a.m.

A vehicle was resting on the highway's concrete center divide and a Honda CR-V was on fire.

The crash blocked all westbound lanes of traffic, and it took about four hours for emergency responders to clear the scene.

Two people died, but information about which vehicles they were in was not immediately available.

The coroner's office identified one of the victims as 21-year-old Franklin Suazo from San Pablo. Suazo was in a vehicle with his uncle when the crash occurred, according to a GoFundMe page found here.

The other victim's name could not yet be released as of Tuesday afternoon.
