El Cerrito Captain Selected As Interim Police Chief

EL CERRITO, CA - City officials announced today that El Cerrito police have named an internal replacement for a police chief who is leaving for a top cop role in Arizona early next month.

Capt. Paul Keith, who has spent more than 15 years in a variety of roles with the El Cerrito police, will serve on an interim basis as the police chief as of March 7, City Manager Scott Hanin announced today.

“I have every confidence that (Keith) will continue the positive momentum of the department and know he has the full support of the city and the police department in this new endeavor,” Hanin said in a statement.

Keith, in his most recent assignment, oversees operations, goals and budgeting at the department. He’s currently second in command to police Chief Sylvia Moir, city officials said.

Moir was selected to be the new police chief in Tempe, Arizona, a post she accepted after around five years at the El Cerrito Police Department.

“She will be missed in our organization as well as in the community,” Hanin said. “We will always be proud that (Moir) worked in El Cerrito. I know she will go on to do wonderful things in Tempe.”
