Karen Pinkos Settles Into El Cerrito City Manager Position

She had been serving as Assistant City Manager.

EL CERRITO, CA — Karen Pinkos, a 17-year employee of El Cerrito, was recently promoted by the City Council to the position of city manager.

Pinkos, El Cerrito's assistant city manager since July 2006, took over the top job on Dec. 26, according to a news release from the city.

"I remain committed to the mission of El Cerrito and will work diligently to implement our strategic goals," Pinkos said.

The council approved Pinkos' contract in November, with a salary of $19,167 per month, or $230,000 annually.

Former City Manager Scott Hanin announced his retirement last summer to be effective at the end of the year.

In September, Pinkos took over as president of the International City/County Manager's Association -- the first assistant city manager ever to be elected to the position.

Pinkos earned both her bachelor's and master of public administration degrees from Oakland University.
