School District Sets Hearing to Discuss Renaming Parts of El Cerrito High

West Contra Costa Unified School District has announced a public hearing to receive input on renaming portions of El Cerrito High School after worthy teachers of the past. The hearing will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the school library.

The school is located at 540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito.

A Board of Education subcommittee named at the August 13, 2014, meeting is tasked with considering name changes after receiving community input. Board Members Madeline Kronenberg and Randall Enos make up the committee.

The renaming was officially proposed by members of the El Cerrito High Schoool Archiving Committee, which suggested naming the press box in the stadium after teacher Sandy Berman, the performing arts theater after Dr. Sam Elkind, the football field after coach Frank Milo and the track after Hal Roach.

Other names for consideration can be submitted at the hearing or by email atcommunications@wccusd.net.
