EL CERRITO, CA — El Cerrito on Tuesday will consider creation of a Tenant Protections Taskforce, part of a package of actions the city is taking at a time of soaring rents in a tight housing market.

The proposed taskforce was carried over from the May 7 meeting of the City Council, which passed two ordinances that night intended to assist renters.

The council approved the first reading of a just cause for eviction ordinance over protests from small landlords.
