Volunteers Needed For CoCo Homeless Count

The count will take place the week of January 28.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Volunteers are being sought for Contra Costa County's annual homeless count, which will be held during the last week in January, county health officials said today.

Volunteers will work in groups to collect data and interview people at designated places in the county during the week of January 28.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and Spanish speakers are urged to help.

The data collected will help Contra Costa Health Services, Division of Health, Housing & Homeless Services, improve services for the county's homeless and is used by state, local and federal officials to determine funding for homeless services.

Volunteers must attend a two-hour training a week before the count and be able to work a two- to three-hour shift during the week of the count.

Training and work requirements can be met at a variety of times and places.

County officials encourage volunteers to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing and plan to stand for long periods.
