Community Business Bank's Casual Fridays Result in Generous Food Bank Donations

Employees of Community Business Bank in West Sacramento and Lodi, CA, pay it forward in order to dress casually on Fridays.

Community Business Bank employees donated approximately 1,000 pounds of food in 2014 to Northern California food banks. The donations are a result of “Food Bank Fridays”-- a year-round community giving campaign that has a special story of its own.

Not too long ago, Community Business Bank employees requested permission to dress casually on Fridays. While management could have simply allowed jeans to be worn at work, the request for “casual Fridays” turned into a light bulb moment.

“Our management team and the bank’s Community Foundation Committee agreed to the idea as long as employees bring in at least one item to benefit local food banks,” said John DiMichele, CEO, Community Business Bank.

The idea has proven to be a win-win for employees and local food banks that serve residents in Sacramento and San Joaquin counties. In 2014, the Sacramento Food Bank and the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton each received approximately 500 pounds of food items from Community Business Bank’s “Food Bank Fridays.”

“We are so very grateful for these donations,” said Mario Supnet, Executive Director, Emergency Food Bank of Stockton. “Programs like ‘Food Bank Fridays’ demonstrate the strength and value of our communities and help us serve more than 6,000 residents every month.”
