Elk Grovians Drive Better than Sacramento Residents, Study Says

Among drivers in large cities, those in Elk Grove are safer than those in Sacramento, an Allstate Insurance Company study says.

The study, reported on by the Sacramento Business Journal Tuesday, compared the frequency of car crashes in the city's 200 largest cities. Elk Grove was No. 133 in the nation, while Sacramento came in at No. 140. Elk Grove was 29th in the state and Sacramento was 31st, the Business Journal reported.

Elk Grove residents go an average of 8.6 years between crashes, while Sacramentans go 8.4 years between incidents, according to the study.

"Allstate's Best Driver's Report was created to boost the country's discussion on safe driving. Each year we hope the report will increase awareness about the importance of being tolerant and attentive behind the wheel," a press release quoted Allstate Senior Vice President of Claims Mike Roche as saying.

Sioux Falls, S.D., was rated the nation's safest large city for drivers. The report is based on claims from January 2009 to December 2010; Allstate's press release doesn't specify whether the results are adjusted to account for differences in population.
