As a fitness professional for more than 10 years, I've seen it a million times. People fall in and out of love with their workout daily. Or worse, they are just going through the motions.
You know the drill. Go to the gym (and you've figured out you need to go at least three times a week to make that membership worth it), get on a machine (hopefully the one you want isn't being used) and trudge away. Maybe you've figured out if you read a magazine, change the channel on the TV to a show you enjoy AND listen to your favorite playlist at the same time, this exercise thing isn't so bad. You dabble at the weight lifting equipment, but just the ones that you know how to use. You keep the weights at a level where you can do 30 reps without breaking out into too much of a sweat. You have somewhere to be later, and there's no way you're stripping in the locker room with all those skinny girls. Besides, that treadmill just told you you burned 852 calories in 30 minutes and you didn't have to soil your cute new top for that, right?
Sound familiar?
WAIT! STOP! You are going about your workout entirely wrong! And what's worse, I can guarantee you WILL NEVER reach your fitness goals this way. And I can also guarantee you'll stop using your membership within two months, and then put in just as much energy mounting a good argument with the gym management about why you need to cancel your membership.
It's not that I'm watching you or in your brain. It's just that I've seen this scenerio play out hundreds of times. You are not alone. Here's where you and millions of Americans are going wrong with their workout. Ready?
You picked the wrong workout.
That's it.
Point blank, if you aren't feeling jump-up-and-down, smile-so-big-it-hurts, I-gotta-call-all-my-friends-to-bring-them-with-me about your workout choice, you made the WRONG choice.
Tell me you just joined a gym, and my response will be, "Really? Omigosh! Don't you just LOVE it? WOW! I bet you just can't wait for that endorphin kick every time you walk through that door! Are you totally excited to get up in the morning and go? I bet you are! Really, that is fantastic! I'm so happy for you! That treadmill sounds like a total blast!"
Wait... you aren't feeling that kind of love for the treadmill?
There's a workout for everyone, and they are all correct choices -- for certain people. I tell my customers if you ever see me running, call 911 because there's an emergency. For me, running has got to be the most boring, repetitive, why-am-I-doing-this-again workout. I. can't. do. it.
The workout for my personality gives me laughter, smiles, dancing, hip hop, kickboxing, Latin moves, Pilates, yoga, strength training, safe moves, camaraderie, stretching, real music I hear on the radio -- all in one hour, because I have a husband, three kids and ZERO time to mess around. I like all of that wrapped up in one fun WOWsers class, and if you can't deliver it all to me, you don't get my money. Oh, and speaking of money, I don't want to be locked into any gotcha contracts, either.
Sound like your kind of workout too? Then you need to check out a Jazzercise Elk Grove! Seriously, Jazzercise isn't the leg warmer workout you see on youtube. It's a challenging, current, sexy, sweaty load of fun. Each class is about an hour - perfect for the time-challenged. And within that hour, we get a professionally choreographed, safe workout that includes cardio, strength and stretch. In one hour, we'll do kickboxing, Pilates, yoga, Latin, hip hop, jazz dance...you name it. It's a complete total body workout. And because Jazzercise Inc choreographs all routines, there's no worries about "the workout is only as good as the instructor." It's allllll goooood.
In fact, Jazzercise Elk Grove won first-runner-up in the 2013 KCRA A-List competition. It's THAT good.
Jazzercise Elk Grove is offering a Mid-Summer Special. Check it out! I'll see you in class!
