A sixth-grade teacher from Elk Grove will be teaching in the United Kingdom next year, the Elk Grove Unified School District announced Monday.
Karl Mansfield, who teaches at , received a Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program grant, and is one of 76 teachers around the world chosen for the program.

Karl Mansfield, a sixth grade teacher at Joseph Sims Elementary School, has been awarded a Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program grant to the United Kingdom. Mansfield is one of 76 U.S. and international teachers who have been selected to travel abroad for the 2012-2013 academic year through the program.
Fulbright grant recipients are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. The program operates in over 155 countries worldwide.

The Fulbright Program, which is administered by the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. The program is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has given approximately 300,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists and scientists the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
