Police Release Image of Suspect in Mechanics Bank Heist

Valentine's Day Armed Robbery Marked First of 2011; Suspect Fled on Bicycle, Witness Says

The Elk Grove Police Department has distributed an image of the man suspected of robbing a bank on Laguna Blvd at gunpoint Monday afternoon  – marking Elk Grove's first bank robbery of the year.

Police continued their search Tuesday for the man, who they describe as African-American, about 40 years old, 5'10” and between 130 and 150 pounds, with a tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was seen wearing a black beanie and black jacket with gray lining and carried a blue day pack on the day of the robbery, EGPD spokesperson Officer Chris Trim said.

The robber entered Mechanics Bank inside the Laguna Gateway shopping center around 1 p.m., displayed a small caliber, semi-automatic pistol and demanded money, police said. He was also missing a lower front tooth and had a sunken-in look to his face, according to police. He was seen fleeing westbound on Laguna Blvd on a bicycle according to a witness, Trim said.

No one was injured in the holdup and the bank was closed for the remainder of Monday afternoon.
